Ubisoft is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Ghost Recon franchise by giving away the first Ghost Recon game for free on Ubisoft Connect. Players can head to to register for the game tests. Or you could simply wait and try out the game when Ubisoft opens up additional regions for later tests. If you’re from India, you could possibly use a VPN to play the game provided you don’t end up facing latency issues. The first test for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Frontline will be held from October 14th to 21st for PC players in Europe. We will be working hard to adjust the game accordingly throughout the several live phases planned before launch, as we want to deliver the most polished and entertaining experience possible for players,” said - Bogdan Bridinel, Creative Director at Ubisoft Bucharest. “We can’t wait to see players’ reactions during the first test of Ghost Recon Frontline. Additional game modes will also be available. Except, everyone gets to use the cheat codes. Essentially, the game feels like a Battle Royale with cheat codes. And if in the heat of the battle, you feel that you didn’t do justice to yourself or your team by picking the right contractor class, then you can switch at any time and continue the fight. Ubisoft promises a large set of tactical support tools, so there’s plenty to help you bunker down and defend yourself until extraction arrives. Which means that you get to leverage any of the tactical tools that you have at your disposal. At which point, their sole objective would be to intervene and make your life hell. Calling for extraction will light you up like a christmas tree for every other squad on the map. Once a team has gathered enough intel, they can head to a drop zone and call for extraction. The objective is to collect enough intel that’s spread around the many landmarks situated across multiple biomes on the island. So prepare yourself for tonnes of DLCs, cases, battle passes and what not.ĭrakemoor island, the open world map on which Ghost Recon Frontline will be played out, can host more than a 100 players. Since Frontline will be free-to-play, you can expect it to follow the games-as-a-service (GaaS) formula. If the developers take a page out of Rainbow Six Siege (which is also a Ubisoft title) then we could probably end up with 60+ contractors over time.
The core problem with balanced fleet doctrine is that it convinces people that they need to build and use units that are unnecessary in a fleet. Another 40 percent should be Cruisers and Heavy Cruisers. Normal doctrine suggests 35 percent of the point value of your fleet will be Fighters. In a defensive role, you should plan to cover your weaknesses. If there are many Heavy Cruisers, then bring more Cruisers. Are there many Cruisers? Then bring more Destroyers. Calculate how many Fighters you need to kill his. What is his compostion? If there are a lot of Fighters, you will have to operate inefficiently to get rid of them. You are rewarded with the power, armour and shield of his units. You run through the attack sequence, stopping at the point where you would have to confirm the attack. How do you find your rival's technology? Sneak a Scout or Corvette into his fleet. However, Small Fleet assumes that Heavy Cruisers are generally the largest unit you will build. You investigate his fleet to determine where the chinks in the armor are. This requires you intelligently determine your rival's technology levels. The essence of SFD is to know thine enemy. We also learn that other units can be efficient under the right circumtances. While the P-Shield won't protect you from capital ships, they will protect you from the currently rampaging Cruiser and in lesser degree HC fleets.įrom the previous sections, we learn that the most efficient units are Fighters, Cruisers and Heavy Cruisers. Most players get P-Shield tech way before P-Ring tech. P-rings are the first deterrant to capital ships. Ion is also a cheaper technology to research. The major selling point of the Ion Turrets is the shielding they have, which helps them against unshielded units. Most defenders will keep two of their best turrets until they get to Disrupter Turrets, then they will build 4 or more of the D-Turrets. These are grouped together, because anything smaller than a Disrupter Turret is useless against Dreadnoughts or higher. A Heavy Cruiser with 10 CCs and medium plasma research (10-15 levels) will dish out 125 points of damage. Building ten is considered reasonable for a free player. Veterans will build ten to fifteen CCs on a base to improve the power of the defensive fleet up to 75 percent. Each Command Center boosts your overall defensive power by ten percent. It’s in this context that one keen fan has launched a web and Facebook campaign once again asking Nintendo to look towards the future.Īptly dubbed “Nintendo go mobile,” the effort is a conceptual look at some of the ways the company could bring its IP to a phone near you. Flash forward to today, and gameplay on phones and tablets has only gotten more popular, making up a staggering 58 percent of the 2011’s $3.3 billion in portable revenue. Specifically, company President Satoru Iwata was firm on the fact that the company’s IP would only be seen on its own products, as long as he was around. Since the initially disappointing sales results of the company’s 3DS, financial backers have been asking the Big N to consider allowing Mario to make a jump of a totally different kind: onto Apple’s iPhone.ĭespite the massive dent the platform had made in traditional portable marketshare, however, Nintendo’s reaction towards iOS – and mobile in general – was cold. And we’re not talking handheld systems, either. For over a year now, Nintendo’s investors have been pressuring the gaming giant to go mobile. However, some of them (like the Tribe weapons) come with all of their moves unlocked. Most of these moves will have to be purchased using upgrade points, and are specific to each weapon type. To do it, you need to execute three unique moves that each add a charge to your Super Wung Fu meter. Do this early on so that you’ll never be left with that empty and hollow feeling of having to leave behind a secret because you don’t have the tool that opens it yet.Īctivating Super Wung Fu is a very important part of the combat of Biomutant, and it's not the most intuitive thing in the world, so make sure you understand what you need to do for it. Fortunately, like the suits, as soon as you come across an area you can’t access, you’ll gain the quest that allows you to upgrade them. The Klonkfist and the Klawbar are two items that allow you to open secret areas, but in order to gain access to the most valuable of secret areas, you’ll need to upgrade them. You’ll likely have to get through a tough fight in order to activate the satellite that will point you towards the suit, but its well worth the effort. Fortunately, as soon as you encounter a hazard, you’ll gain a quest that sends you in the direction of where you need to go in order to collect that suit. We recommended finding the Bio Suit first so you can farm Biopoints, but the other environmental suits will also be a huge help as you explore Biomutant’s world, which is gated by environmental hazards. You can also return the monster’s feces to Moog Munsterhonter, which will make him a very happy munster hunter, so hey, it’s not like you’re killing living creatures just for your own gain.įind the Other Environmental Protection Suits These vaults house extraordinarily powerful loot, and will be a major source for high level weaponry. One of those NPCs is Moog Munster, who is especially notable because he sends you on Munster Hunts, which reward you with a key to a vault for the area. Also, some of these mutations just look really cool.Īs mentioned earlier, one of the reasons to start off on the main quest is because it sends you to meet important NPCs fairly early on. Not only is it a great spot to grab some decent gear early on, but also it houses a particular type of enemy that will always drop Biopoints, which you can use to either unlock new mutations and perks or bump up your resistances so that you can explore other hazard zones without even needing the corresponding environmental suits. explore Bio Nucleus 6D, which is located to the northeast of Murkadorpus Outpost. While there’s a bunch of suits that you can get to protect yourself from environmental hazards, the Bio Suit is the one that you’re gonna wanna get first, because once you get it, you can. Head towards any cloud of green gas to get the quest to find the Bio Suit, and then head off to find it. Once you feel comfortable enough with your skills and gear to head off the beaten path, one of the first things you should think about doing is getting the Bio Suit. Plus, the difficulty curve is tailored to be much easier when following the main path than if you just decide to go wandering off on your own, so it might be a good idea to at least stay close to the main path, if you’re not following it 100%. But just know that by following the main quest you’ll get a number of important upgrades that you’ll definitely want to have early on, plus access to various NPCs that can send you on exceptionally rewarding sidequests - you can even unlock your own mech pretty quickly! And hey, if that’s your thing, don’t let us stop you. It takes about an hour or so to complete Biomutant’s tutorial section, but once the training wheels are off and you’re free to explore the world as you see fit, there’s definitely a temptation to just head off in any direction to do whatever you want. Biomutant is all about evolution, and your build can evolve as the game goes on to whatever you want it to be.ĭo the Main Quest (At Least for a Little While) But it’s also important to note that everything that gets set at the beginning of the game is really just a way of starting you off on the right foot towards your preferred playstyle, it’s not set in stone. And if you wanna go for a mage build, you’ll of course wanna pump a large amount of points into intellect and pick the Psi-Freak as your class. If you’re going for more of a ranged heavy vibe, you’ll want to build up your agility and pick either the Dead Eye or Commando class. While those who collect the bufotoxin on both sides of the border claim to do so in a sustainable fashion, often releasing the toads afterward, Villa says there’s no real way to do this. “There’s a psychedelic renaissance that’s happening,” he says, “and there’s a whole sect of this community that is devoted to the Sonoran Desert toad, extracting for psychedelic use.” Villa became aware of the toad’s growing popularity after working in 2017 as a consultant for an episode of the Vice docuseries Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia, in which Mexican practitioners are on camera noting the decline in local toad populations in the state of Sonora. The toad’s newfound popularity concerns Robert Villa, the president of the Tucson Herpetological Society and a research associate with the University of Arizona’s Desert Laboratory, on Tumamoc Hill in Tucson. ( Bufo alvarius, as the toad was formerly named, has since been renamed Incilius alvarius, and is also sometimes called the Colorado River toad.) Many ceremonies take place in the country, and more and more for white tourists in popular destinations such as Tulum on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, where retreat costs can range from $200 sessions to all-inclusive packages upwards of $3,000. I stayed sober for a year afterward.” Since 2018, the World Bufo Alvarius Congress in Mexico has attracted hundreds of participants annually from across the globe. “The experience unlocked feelings and hurts I’d buried deep for too long,” he writes. In his new memoir, Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, claims that 5-MeO-DMT helped temporarily cure his addiction to crack. The practice has gone from being an obscure desert phenomenon in the ’80s to an ever-more popular psychedelic activity in recent years. Read: Do psychedelic drug laws violate human rights? Toad altars, T-shirts, and tattoos all profess a worship of the species. Many who’ve undergone the experience refer to the poison as a “god molecule” that has cured their addictions or helped them achieve a deeper connection to the earth. Ceremony participants lie down on the ground, on blankets and sarongs, and smoke the dried secretions-a Schedule 1 drug-which induce an otherworldly state that lasts for about half an hour. In “toad medicine circles”-underground ceremonies that take place across the country in swanky areas, from Malibu and Santa Fe to what one participant described as “ the floor of a chic apartment on the Upper West Side” of New York City-the psychedelic has become the latest trendy shortcut to spiritual awakening. What happened to the creatures isn’t hard to guess, however: In recent years, psychedelic enthusiasts have been rounding up Sonoran Desert toads in order to obtain their secretions, which contain a powerful hallucinogenic substance called 5-MeO-DMT. Though the recordings-and the story’s peculiar nature-made local and national news, briefly causing a stir, the culprits were never caught. He estimates, from the footage, that the thieves grabbed at least a dozen toads. “That is, like, the last thing I expected to see,” Kevin Smith, the sole park ranger at Spur Cross Ranch, says. A jumble of legs pressed frantically into the thin plastic, captive amphibians trying to escape their new prison. Later, a young man wearing a tattered cowboy hat and a tank top came into view, his face and hand looming large in the camera frame as he clenched a grocery bag. One girl squealed as she held up a fat one-both of her hands wrapped around its belly-and dropped it into a plastic bag. Holding flashlights, they scoured a Mexican lily–filled pond near a popular hiking trail, on the hunt for Sonoran Desert toads. Late on a Thursday evening in July 2018, three intruders were caught on a wildlife camera at the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area, a park north of Phoenix. He also confirmed that I’m the only account that this data loss situation happened with, and that they’re interested in finding a suitable solution. this evening about the issue – he was a nice, knowledgable guy, and offered me a 2tb seed drive to re-seed my data. I had a brief call with tech manager Brad W. So when I received the below email this afternoon, I was extremely disappointed and immediately concerned for the safety of my now un-backed-up data, but unfortunately I wasn’t very surprised – this is just the kind of disaster I’ve come to expect from Crashplan.īelow you’ll find a transcript of my current support history, starting from the time when I reported my “unable to backup” issue, and ending with my response to their meager attempt to remedy the situation. I’d wait days to get a response, had multiple support agents dealing with my case on multiple threads – the whole thing was a mess. And throughout all of these issues, Crashplan support sucked. Sure they give big warnings of this, but a small grace period would be nice. The UI was finicky – if the wrong settings were changed, my entire backup archive would be expunged by the system – with no time to go back and undo anything. The backup service would load slowly, and would frequently re-scan my computer. I would usually only see 100kbps or so upload speed, even when I knew I had much more bandwidth. Backup upload speed was nothing like I saw using Backblaze. However, over the last few months of using it, and leading up to this giant Crashplan data loss disaster, have seen a darker side. My initial impression of Crashplan was good – a flexible service with lots of configuration options. Note that nowadays, I believe that Backblaze retains data for 3-6 months, which is much much better.Īnyway, I decided that having longer than 1 month retention times for my data was important, and switched to Crashplan. Because of this little quirk of their service, I decided to switch backup providers to Crashplan. Backblaze would delete data from my archive if it didn’t see that data connected to my computer for a month – so if I went on vacation for 2 months and stored away my external hard drives, my data would be automatically expunged at the end of the first month. However, the one thing Backblaze didn’t do at the time was offer unlimited, or very long retention. Backblaze was great – a lightweight, easy to use front end, fast backup speed, low system resources, good support response times, and most importantly, a reliable service. Before I switched to Crashplan, I was using Backblaze for online backup. I’ve been using online backup for a number of years. And Crashplan doesn’t seem to have any remorse. It’s gone – my entire online backup archive of all of my data – my life’s work – 2.4 tb of everything – completely gone. That’s right, Crashplan lost all of my data, unrecoverably. After almost an entire week of not being able to backup to Crashplan because of “archive maintenance” on their part, I was informed today that instead of merely maintaining my backup archive, Crashplan LOST THE ENTIRE THING. That said, X-rite's XRD protocols are a huge mess and buggy. I can understand that, but I suspect there is some software conflict here based on what you report. I have no appetite for un/re-installing Windows. Use the above points in any order you wish. Some things will run on either and others (older printer) will not. My Win8 machine, a Dell XPS 8500, has USB 2 and USB 3 ports with some non powered. I have been running the free version for several years on XP machines and for about 9 months on a Win8 machine without any problems or having to undo a clean.Ĥ. It also has an uninstaller that has a power scan feature that will find all related registry entries left behind by the standard uninstall. Advanced System Care under the products tab has a very good registry cleaner that will remove the invalid entries and defragment the registry if needed. Run a disk wiping utility and wipe the free space or defragment the hard drive once the program and its files have been removed to ensure new versions of the program's files are written. Some settings are in other folders elsewhere in the system. Once a program has been uninstalled check the program files folder for remaining files for that program left behind by the uninstall. Once windows has "learned" your computer it is more likely to toggle the free space bit. Some programs write new files every time they are installed others don't. Once that file has been removed via the uninstall it is still on the hard drive but marked free space and any registry entries are marked as inactive. When uninstalling software on a windows system there is a bit used to tell if the disk space the file is on is in use or if it is free space. Turn your internet connection off and disable your security suite. What updates have been applied to Windows since it last worked correctly? Use system restore to go back to the state the computer was in when Colormunki worked. I have reinstalled Windows before it is not a trivial task.ġ. I am not sure what to do about this short of a re-install of Windows. Yes, the power can fail on a USB port but the data path is still intact or the port may not be able to supply enough power for the Colormunki, but sufficient power for say a flash drive.īy any chance, between the time it worked and the time it stopped working, did you add other devices that draw power from the USB controller in the computer - say an external disk drive ot the like? That could cause the power to drop below a threshold and cause the Colormunki to fail.Ģ) All the install/uninstall may have fouled up the drivers beyond all recognition. Try using a port on the back of the computer. Be sure to connect it directly to the computer do not go through a hub, including the hub built into the U2410 display. If the USB port cannot supply the correct amount of power, the Colormunki will not be powered and, to all intents and purposes, will not be connected. Two things come to mind (although there may be many other reasons for your failure):ġ) Your hardware draws power through the USB port. I'm not discounting the possibility that the problem is with something I've inadvertently done, but frankly I don't have a clue on what to do or try next. So- any thoughts on what's up here please. But this time it does work and calibrates plausibly on a small laptop, so I know this Colormunki can work. At this point all agreed that it seemed like a hardware error and Amazon (original supplier) sent another today.īut this one doesn't work either on my desktop and again I get "Colormunki not connected" every time. All this just got me to a point where the hardware was not being recognised at all "Colormunki Display not connected" when it was using USB ports that I know to work. Tried a lot of stuff including uninstall/reinstall of software, and installing on a differentcomputer. To cut a long story short I had detailed discussions with X-Rite and with Colour Confidence who provide technical support. Then last month it started to stall in the process of calibrating. In general I could get an ok calibration insofar as my pictures looked OK and prints I had made at labs would be close to my expectation. Still OK, though I had one or two strange colour calibrations a few months back, and an occasional statement that it couldn't establish LUT. It worked ok, and early 2013 bought my current Dell 2410 for my PC running Windows 7. Maybe I'll be lucky and find someone who can help with this one. |
